A brief history of conceptual artist John Baldessari

Pretty awesome video commissioned by LACMA for their first annual “Art + Film Gala” honoring John Baldessari and Clint Eastwood, where Californian artist John Baldessari and his work is been introduced by musician Tom Waits. Baldessari is a key figure in conceptual art in America. This multidisciplinary artist, that works in sculpture, installation, film, photography and printmaking and painting, is well-known for mixing text with images, changing the meaning of the piece.  As Leslie Jones curator of Los Angeles County Museum of Art said:

“ I’ve often thought of Baldessari’s work as kind of surrealism for the media age … because he’s taking pre-existing imagery and reconfiguring it and creating new realities, or surrealities.”
